Ascend

🔼 What Is Ascend?

Ascend allows Link to swim upward through solid surfaces and emerge on top of them. As long as there is a ceiling above Link — rock, soil, wood, or man-made structure — Ascend will launch him straight through it, bypassing the need to climb or find another route entirely.

🗺️ Where to Obtain It

Ascend is obtained on the Great Sky Island during the opening of Tears of the Kingdom. It is one of the four abilities Link regains before leaving the tutorial area, making it immediately useful on the Sky Island itself.

🧩 Puzzle Uses

• Pass directly through cave ceilings to reach the surface above.
• Emerge inside locked rooms by ascending through the floor from below.
• Shortcut through dungeon layers instead of taking the long route.
• Reach shrine entrances hidden on top of rock formations.

🌍 Exploration Uses

• Scale mountains by ascending through overhanging rock faces.
• Enter the Depths via floors without needing a chasm.
• Bypass terrain obstacles without spending climbing stamina.
• Surface inside enemy camps from caves directly beneath them.

⚔️ Combat Uses

• Ambush surface enemies by emerging beneath their feet.
• Escape underground encounters by ascending through the ceiling.
• Reposition mid-fight by sliding through a low ceiling to higher ground.
• Avoid fall damage by ascending into a ceiling when falling in caves.

⚡ Tips & Tricks

• Works on almost any solid surface — rock, wood, metal, and ice.
• The ceiling must be thin enough — very thick rock may not work.
• Combine with Ultrahand-built platforms to reach otherwise impossible heights.
• Use inside enemy structures to reach upper floors instantly.
